About Us
The Queensland Police Legacy Scheme is a Registered Charitable Organisation with Letters Patent issued under the Religious Educational and Charitable Institutions Acts 1861-1967.
Queensland Police Legacy was founded in 1971 with the aims and objectives of providing ongoing assistance to the eligible dependent families of deceased Queensland police officers. The main focus of this assistance has always been meeting the educational expenses of the dependent children.
In 2005 the Constitution was changed to include the families of serving officers whose spouse has died. Legacy’s support in such instances allows these experienced serving officers to continue working on a part-time basis and at the same time be available to their children at a time when they are needed most.
Legacy also supports the families of serving officers in instances where the officers are deemed to be suffering from terminal illnesses. Queensland Police Legacy receives no government funding. Income is received from Police Officers donations via a payroll deduction system; fundraising from various charity events, donations from the community and from the distribution of the Child Safety Handbook .
Over the past 40 years the Scheme has provided assistance to 191 families including 342 dependent legatee children.
All donations of $2 and over are Tax Deductible
